The Gardner Racing Concepts Chronicle
Stanley Gardner keeps dream alive

Stanley Gardner's greatest thrill going into his 15th year is going to work at GRC and working with the best riders, engine builders, and outstanding personalities in motorcycle drag racing.

Gardner first started racing in the early 80s with friends at the New England Dragway and was spending a lot of time at HMP and went full time there in 1987, when the crank thing just happnened, and that's when he began perfecting his skills with the craft of rebuilding crankshafts and other parts that are critical to the performance of the machine.

It was a better alternative to changing truck tires...

Gardner quickly realized that there was more to the drag racing scene than just drag racing. There was the business side as well.

The best job I ever had...

After five years he set out on his own, opening a machine shop, Gardner Racing Concepts (GRC), in his back yard. He was pursing his dream of turning out the best performance cranks in the industry. He has raced and ridden for 25 years and knows the business, and the requirements of a winning crankshaft combination. For 15 years he has been putting that expertise on the line with every crank he's delivered.

"It's truly the best job I've ever had," he says, "It's taken me lots of places. I've raced from Maine to California and competed at both the Bonneville Salt Flats and the High Banks of Daytona [in the Rolex 24]."

His personal best elapsed time was 7.91 seconds at 165 mph, while completing Frank Hawley's Pro Stock Bike Course. That feeling of flying, and the unleashed power beneath is the most liberating feeling imaginable. Since 2002, GRC has supplied crankshafts for the Frank Hawley school bikes.

GRC machined racing parts: Always straight; No shine

Every motor needs a crankshaft, and GRC offers personalized one on one service. GRC uses only the best parts when manufacturing and repairng drag racing roller bearing cranks. In the building process each crank is taken apart, inspected, measured, cleaned, reassembled, welded and balanced.

Each application is different since street bikes are not built the same as funny bikes and funny bike cranks are not built the same as pro stock. (Pro stock cranks aren't built the same as pro-mod, but you get the idea.)

While GRC has a large stock of machined parts, many can be special ordered to meet specific application needs. Only top quality parts are used including Falicon, Sar Racing, Carrillo and others.

No matter what you ask for, what you will get and what you can count on getting is the right crankshaft for your individual application and motor program.

The 2006 racing season is right around the corner, don't wait 'til spring, call now and be ready.

Giving back to the community

Gardner Racing Concepts has always believed in giving back and Gardner has done just that. In 1997 and 1998 GRC sponsored events for the MDC, as well as at 1999-2000 Quick Motorcycle Shootout at Raceway Park, Englishtown, NJ. In 2000-2002, he sponsored events Top Bike Challenge at New England Dragway. Gardner also has sponsored events at SEMDRA from 2003 to 2006.

Riders and raceteams have also benefited from GRC crankshafts and clutches. Bill Roth has four ET Championships at New England Dragway. In 2001 Rob Giard won the Funny Bike crown in Prostar. In 2002 Angell Sampae and Star Racing took the NHRA Championship including 6 wins and an ET record of 7.04. Other NHRA standouts include Fred Collins of Star Racing, Columbus, OH in 2003, with the 4th quickest time ever; Reggie Showers of Star Racing won the US Nationals at Inda, K+N Filters ProBikes clash and the Memphis, TN title in the same year. 2003 also saw Travis Davis win the Pro Star Funny Bike title. Team owner, Joe Franco (The Pro Mod Guru) has three Pro Mod Championships with (Tony Sabino, Tom Miceli, and John Sachs)

For several years Gardner has wanted to bring his work to Maine, where he could enjoy the outdoors, his passion for motorcycles and continue his life long pursuit of excellence in manufacturing machined parts for the top names in motorcycles racing. For the last several years, he has sponsored bikes at one of the largest racing schools in the country: Frank Hawley's ProStock Bike Course.

In the early spring of 2005, Gardner made the move, bringing Gardner Racing Concepts from its orginal Natick, Massachusetts location to a more expansive location in Ellsworth, Maine. The move gives Gardner, founder and owner, more room to fabricate and repair the cranks, cams and other machine parts he is natonally known for among motorcycle racing insiders.

Machined parts for racing motorcyles are being made by very few machinists, it's important to find a manufacturer you can trust and one that will work with you to meet your exact specifications. Gardner (see story to left) brings a desire to provide a perfect product to the Downeast location. His shop has tire mounting and balancing equipment as well as everything necessary for building and repairing race quality cranks, clutches, cams and more.

Rewards

Gardner Racing Concepts has sponsored bikes at the SEMDRA Race Series since 2003. From 2000 to 2002 he was the major race series sponsor for the Top Bike Challenge at the New England Dragway in Epping, NH and in 1999 and 2000 he was an associate race sponsor for the Quick Motorcycle Shootout at Raceway Park, Englishtown, NJ. Gardner has celebrated 4 wins with Frank Roalf and 2 wins with Alan Deroshier on the NHRA Pro-Stock and Pro-Mod circuits.

Plenty of champions ride on his crankshafts. Fred Collins took the 2003 Columbus OH title with the 4 th fastest time ever. Reggie Showers won the US Nationals, the K&N Filters ProBike Klash and the Memphis, TN title in the same year. In 2002 Angell Savoie took the NHRA national championship including 6 wins at NHRA with an Elapsed Time National Record (7.04).
